Chelsea face big battle with Paris-Saint Germain for Conte's replacement; Arsenal too?

Chelsea face major competition from Paris Saint-Germain to secure the services of former Barcelona manager Luis Enrique.

Spanish football expert Guillem Balague has claimed the 47-year-old has been approached by intermediaries acting on behalf of both clubs with a view to appointing him this summer.

Current Chelsea boss Antonio Conte signed a new two-year contract at Stamford Bridge in July 2017, but he has been widely tipped to leave the club at the end of the season.

“It will be an interesting dilemma for him, because he of course will want to go to a team who can challenge for absolutely everything,” Balague told Sky Sports.

“It’s quite clear that the PSG option provides him with the opportunity to win titles, but in the case of Chelsea, he has been preparing for the possibility of going to the Premier League for a long time.

“He has been learning English for a while, and he has told me in the past that he has a fascination with the Premier League, but his future is not determined yet.”

Enrique left Barcelona at the end of last season after winning nine major trophies during his time in charge at the Nou Camp.

He decided to take a year out of the game, but he is eager to step back into management this summer and Balague says Enrique could also have offers from elsewhere.

“I haven’t heard of an offer from Arsenal – of course he would be a candidate if they got rid of Arsene Wenger, but I don’t think they have reached that stage yet,” he added.

“It’s an interesting situation for Luis Enrique in terms of who will go with him, but he is determined to work again next season if the conditions are right.

“Most of his favoured backroom staff are either at Barcelona or Celta. Juan Carlos Unzue is his usual No 2, and he’s Celta manager at the moment, and I’ve got the impression he wants to continue being a No 1.

“What Luis Enrique wants to do is coach at the highest level, and he has the opportunity to do so either at PSG or Chelsea.

“But there is no point in making a decision now, because there will be more clubs interested in him later in the season.”

Major blow in Arsenal’s hopes of signing 22-year-old Santi Cazorla replacement

Arsene Wenger has been dealt a bitter blow in his hopes of signing a long-term replacement for Spanish midfielder Santi Cazorla, and it could be Bayern Munich’s fault.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the perennial Bundesliga champions are looking to sign Schalke midfielder Max Meyer on a free transfer this summer. The 22-year-old was lined up by Arsenal to solve their midfield problems, but it appears his future may remain in Germany.

He’s made 20 Bundesliga appearances this season, averaging a tackle or interception every 15 minutes, while boasting a 90% pass completion ratio. It’s not hard to see why Arsenal want him.

Bayern have already secured the signature of Meyer’s teammate Leon Goretzka, and the Gunners could be powerless to stop another Schalke midfielder making the switch to the Allianz Arena, however. It’s potentially bad news for Wenger, as he’s been desperate for a midfielder capable of replacing the injured Cazorla.

Arsenal have Granit Xhaka, Jack Wilshere, Aaron Ramsey and Mohamed Elneny as their first-team options in the engine room, having sold Francis Coquelin to Valencia in January, and it seems there’s flaws with all four players.

Xhaka struggles with discipline and his defensive duties, and takes too many risks in possession. Wilshere is a fantastic playmaker but can never be trusted over a full season due to his injury troubles.

Ramsey is currently recovering from an injury layout and has been a regular when fit, but his tendencies to leave the midfield vacant when searching for a goal mean a defensive option is required alongside him. As for Elneny, Arsenal tried to sell him last summer.

If Meyer goes to Bayern, Arsenal will have to go back to the drawing board to find a player who can provide the high-levels of ball retention that Cazorla could, coupled with creating chances and adhering to one’s defensive duties.

Everton ready to get rid of key man in summer, Portuguese lined up as replacement

Everton ready to get rid of key man in summer, Portuguese lined up as replacement – originally posted on Sportslens.com

Everton are ready to replace Sam Allardyce in the summer after their poor run of form in the recent weeks.

According to reports, the Shakhtar Donetsk boss Paulo Fonseca is a target for the Toffees.

Allardyce replaced Ronald Koeman at Everton earlier this season but the Toffees are not happy with his contributions so far.

Despite an impressive start to his tenure as the Everton boss, Allardyce’s side has shown no signs of progress. Everton’s win over Palace on Saturday was only their second in ten games.

Farhad Moshiri has invested £239m on new players and it is evident that most of that money has been wasted on mediocre players like Cenk Tosun.

It will be interesting to see if the Toffees can convince Fonseca to take over at Goodison Park at the end of this season.

Allardyce has an 18-month contract at the club but he is simply not good enough to take Everton to Europe. In order to get more out of his investment, Moshiri needs to find a better manager and also improve the club’s recruitment setup.

Key West Ham man set to leave in summer, Hammers want Spaniard as replacement

Key West Ham man set to leave in summer, Hammers want Spaniard as replacement – originally posted on Sportslens.com

West Ham manager David Moyes is expected to leave the club at the end of this season.

The former Manchester United manager has done a decent job since taking over from Slaven Bilic but the Hammers are actively looking for a long-term replacement.

As per the reports, the likes of Rafa Benitez and Marco Silva are targets for West Ham. Benitez is thought to be frustrated with the lack of resources under Mike Ashley and Silva is out of a job and therefore he will come cheap.

West Ham were in the relegation zone when Bilic was sacked. Moyes has done well to steer them clear of the bottom three but there is no real improvement in the quality of play.

The Hammers have not won any of their last three Premier League games. Also, they were dumped out of the FA Cup by League One side Wigan Athletic.

It will be interesting to see who ends up replacing Moyes at West Ham during the summer. Both Benitez and Silva would be upgrades on the Scottish manager.
