Selena Gomez has been hard at work, and not just with her music career. The former Disney star is set to appear in Woody Allen’s upcoming film A Rainy Day in New York, the third installment of the animated film Hotel Transylvania and now has a new big-screen project under way. Gomez has joined the cast of The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle, which is slated to release in 2019, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The “Bad Liar” singer joins Robert Downey Jr., Antonio Banderas, Michael Sheen and a voice cast that includes Spider-Man: Homecoming‘s Tom Holland, Emma Thompson and Ralph Fiennes. None of the cast members have spoken out about the film, but The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle will reportedly begin production this month in London.
The movie will be based on the 1920s series of children’s books by Hugh Lofting.
Her screen work comes at perfect time for Gomez, who admits that she’s in an improved mental headspace with her film career. “Having done this since I was seven, it’s probably the most comfortable I’ve ever felt,” she told Harper’s Bazaar for their March cover story. “Even in auditions, I feel like I’m way more confident than I would’ve been in the past. I’m not focused on the things that I used to be like, ‘Do I look old enough? Do I look sexy enough? Do I look cool enough? Am I nice enough, graceful enough?’ Those sorts of things would come into my mind, but now I feel a little more liberated.”
