Aston Villa 2 – Birmingham City 0
It was the perfect weekend for Aston Villa.
Second in the Championship, Villa beat Birmingham City 2-0 in front of their home fans to give their supporters a huge boost in the final stage of the season.
After a goalless first half, Villa took control in the second period.
Albert Adomah broke the deadlock for Villa just before the hour, scoring his 13th league goal of season from 15 yards.
Conor Hourihane scored the decisive second goal with a terrific volley.
Jack Grealish was superb for Villa in midfield, while Birmingham’s day ended on a bum note when Cheikh Ndoye was sent off in stoppage time.
Will John Terry play for Aston Villa vs Chelsea?
Villa haven’t been this high in the Championship table all season.
Steve Bruce’s side will now fancy their chances of returning to the Premier League, which has focused fresh attention on John Terry.
Terry, the Chelsea captain, leader and legend, joined Aston Villa at the start of the season on a one year deal.
It’s also seemed the case that Terry never wished to play against Chelsea in a competitive game. But there’s now renewed belief that could happen, according to the Telegraph. Readers are told:
Terry, the Aston Villa captain, has decided to delay his next move until the end of the season as he focuses on helping guide Steve Bruce’s team back to the Premier League.
Telegraph Sport can reveal that Terry and Villa have a mutual option to trigger another 12 months to his current £60,000-a-week contract.
The thought that John Terry could play for Aston Villa against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge is on.
