Every day we are more fans of compressed air weapons…. And it is not surprising, since, in addition to offering totally realistic sensations, this type of weapons has a whole series of advantages that make them a more than adequate choice:
- They are more affordable than real firearms.
- Ammunition is also cheaper (which allows for more and cheaper practice).
- Some models offer great precision.
- Their lower power allows them to be used by all types of audiences, even inexperienced shooters.
- Less noise than real firearms (something that is undoubtedly also appreciated when practicing).
- For its purchase and possession it is not necessary to have a weapons license.
- They do not require an approved gunsmith.
Nowadays we can find compressed air weapons of exceptional quality on the market, which will last us for years and years if we take care of them correctly Luftpistol.
It is therefore important that we know what specific care this material requires. It is evident that dirt, corrosion or any other foreign matter can make the operation of any weapon difficult, even causing serious accidents to both the person who handles it and those who are nearby. But not only that, a properly cleaned and lubricated weapon will offer much higher quality performance for much longer.
METAL PIECES
Without a doubt one of the fundamental elements in any weapon is the barrel.
It is necessary to have a correct cleaning routine: the barrel should always be cleaned before storing it (especially if we are going to store it for a long period), or at least, we should clean it every 500 shots.
To clean the barrel, it is advisable to use a non-metal cleaning rod (metal could damage the grooves on the barrel). You can apply a few drops of oil on the barrel to ensure better cleaning.
Furthermore, from time to time the use of a cleaning pellet is recommended, the operation of which is very simple: you just have to shoot it as if it were a normal pellet.
Every 1,000 shots it is advisable to lubricate the compression chamber but, be careful! We should not lubricate excessively as that would be dangerous for the weapon. A drop of shotgun lubricant will be more than enough. Excessive lubrication will increase the risk of more dust, dirt, debris adhering to the weapon… which will inevitably lead to mechanical malfunction.
In general, all the metal parts of the weapon will be as good as new by cleaning them with a cloth slightly moistened with mineral oil. This also prevents oxidation.
It is very important that all metal parts are periodically greased to ensure proper functioning, but be careful! We should never exceed this lubrication: oil is a highly flammable element and therefore can become a real danger when we put it under pressure. For this reason, it is always recommended to lubricate when we are going to spend a period of time without using the weapon, which will give time for the oil to dry and not be dangerous.
THE HEAD
A stock in good condition says a lot about a gun.
Obviously, the care of the cylinder head will depend on the material it is made of:
Synthetic cylinder heads: this type of cylinder head does not require specific care, beyond cleaning to avoid the presence of dirt, mud, etc. The most important thing after cleaning is to make sure that the cylinder head is completely dry, for which we recommend using a specific cleaning towel.
Wooden stocks: without a doubt, wood requires more special care, especially when storing the weapon. If your weapon has a wooden stock, you must make sure that the place where you store it is properly ventilated and that it does not reach high temperatures (which could cause cracks in the wood).
To keep them looking like new, it is recommended to carefully polish them with a specific wood care product.
GAS GUNS
In the case of gas-powered weapons, we must take special care with the rubber gasket located in contact with the CO2 cylinder. Continued use of the weapon can cause the wear of these rubbers and, with this, leaks will occur that pose a serious danger to the shooter.
Therefore, these gaskets will have to be replaced from time to time.
Some shooters, when they begin to notice that their weapon is beginning to leak gas, unconsciously try to tighten the cylinder more. With this type of behavior we will only damage the gas intake or even other metal components: never squeeze the cylinder, it must fit correctly, without the need to exert any type of pressure.
HELPFUL TIPS
In addition to everything mentioned, it is worth taking into account the following tips:
- Do not leave your gun loaded for several hours or days: the spring could lose its elastic qualities and, with this, the power of the shot would be significantly reduced.
- Always store the weapon fully unloaded.
- Always empty the gun by shooting in a safe direction.
- Never fire the weapon if it is not loaded with pellets (dry fire): the lack of ammunition that facilitates air compression will cause the piston seal to be shot out quickly, impacting the piston, which can cause various damage or even render it unusable. the weapon (note that the spring is a fundamental part of the weapon).
- Never store your gun in a humid place.
- It is a good idea to place some anti-humidity product in the place where we are going to store the weapon.
- Do not try to disassemble your weapon: always take it to an authorized center.
- Do not modify your weapon. If you change the configuration that the weapon comes from the factory, you may incur serious safety problems (in addition to completely invalidating the weapon’s warranty).
- Store the weapon in a suitable case, it will prevent it from rubbing against other elements and will also allow you to transport it comfortably and safely.
- Avoid hitting the weapon.
- Do not disassemble the weapon if you are not absolutely sure how it works. If you have any doubts, it is more advisable that we put the weapon in the hands of a professional.
