AC Milan are reportedly interested in signing Manchester United’s Ander Herrera as they look to bolster their squad next season.
The Spaniard’s contract was previously going to run out in the summer but the club triggered an extension so that it lasts until 2019.
While some fans have taken that as a good sign, skeptics have pointed out that Jose Mourinho only did so that he wouldn’t lose his player for free and will instead sell him regardless.
Although last season the thought of selling Herrera would’ve been unthinkable, the Portuguese manager has more cause to do so this time around.
It appears as though the Italian giants have also taken notice of the midfielder’s diminishing stature at Old Trafford and are keen on him.
According to Sports Mole, Tuttosport report that Milan are keeping an eye on Ander as they bid to restore glory to the San Siro.
Last year he was named the club’s player of the year but he has yet to hit the same heights this season with some supporters even calling for him to be moved on.
Whilst it’s unlikely that Mourinho will consider Ander Herrera as untouchable, it would seem to make sense that a sizeable bid is made to pry him from the Red Devils.
United have a bit of a midfielder crisis in the upcoming summer transfer window and may need to hold onto the former Atletico Bilbao man for now.
Michael Carrick and Marouane Fellaini‘s contracts both run out by then leaving just Herrera, Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba as the senior midfielders at the club.
