Thierry Henry on Marcus Rashford
On Sky Sports’s Monday Night Football show, Marcus Rashford was the focus of attention for Thierry Henry.
Man United were beaten 1-0 at Newcastle last weekend. Matt Ritchie was the hero for the Magpies.
Rashford missed the game at St James’ Park with a thigh injury picked up in the Huddersfield match.
Yet, looking at the wider picture for Rashford at Old Trafford, Henry is wondering if the forward needs to consider moving on.
Rashford to leave Man United?
Thierry Henry argued why Rashford may be wise to explore his options:
You cannot be on the bench and missing games, missing learning about the game and stopping that momentum, and an example is Rashford.
Michael Owen had the opportunity to back up what he did the year before because he played, and he played, and he played, and he played – and I can give you more examples.
But Rashford at times could not capitalise on what he did from that year [after his debut], because sometimes he is playing on the right, [sometimes] on the left.
Leave is a strong word. Obviously being from there, he wants to play for United. But he has to play and it is becoming even more difficult for him since Sanchez has arrived.
I think at the end of the season, he is maybe going to have a thinking day of ‘do I stay?’
But is Henry peddled ‘fake news’ about Rashford?
Up until the Newcastle game, Rashford had appeared in every Premier League for United this season.
While he may not have started every game, Jose Mourinho has relied on the England international a lot this season.
