Anthony Martial has expressed his delight at being voted Manchester United’s ‘Player of the Month’ for the third time this season.
The Frenchman picked up the award for September and October following a string of ebullient displays on the left hand side.
And he deservedly claimed the award – handed to Ashley Young and then Jesse Lingard in the interim – once again earlier this week after claiming three goals and two assists through January.
Speaking to MUTV, the 22-year-old noted he was pleased with the way he has started 2018.
“I feel really good at the moment,” he said.
“I’m training hard and, to be fair, with the matches and results since the new year, we’ve made a decent start, so I hope we can continue in the same vein.
“It’s a real honour for me that the supporters have voted for me. I think now it’s the third time it’s happened this season. I just hope I can keep this run going and maybe even try and win a few more of them!”
2018 began with Martial, through a beautiful curling strike at Everton, eclipsing the goal tally he managed during the entirety of last season – a strange time during which he admitted to not being fully focused, his mind preoccupied with things outside of the pitch.
This time around, however, the 22-year-old’s application has been ruthless. His body language conveys a kind of controlled ferociousness, contrasting heavily with the detached figure we saw just a year ago, and the precision which has returned to his game – both inside and outside the box – as a result serves as a frightening prospect for any right-back in the world.
