Everton vs Crystal Palace
Crystal Palace head to Goodison Park on Saturday in the Premier League to take on Everton.
It’ll be the first time many of the Crystal Palace squad face former manager Sam Allardyce since he left Selhurst Park at the end of last season.
Everton come into the game on the back of a 5-1 drumming at Arsenal last weekend.
New signing Eliaquim Mangala had a nightmare performance after his Man City move, while Everton were awful as they conceded four first half goals.
Crystal Palace drew 1-1 against Newcastle last time out.
Sam Allardyce vs Roy Hodgson
Ahead of the game, a bitter feud between the rival managers on Saturday has been reopened.
Of course, both Hodgson and Allardyce have both been England managers.
Big Sam was sacked after just one match following a sting operation. During that event, Allardyce made some hugely disparaging remarks about the current Palace boss.
Allardyce was filmed calling Hodgson “Woy”. Big Sam also joked that Hodgson would be an awful public speaker because “he’d send them all to sleep, he hasn’t got the personality”.
Hodgson hasn’t forgotten or forgiven
Ahead of the Everton game, Hodgson was asked about those Allardyce comments.
Has Big Sam ever said sorry? Is it water under the bridge? No and no. As reported in the Times:
Hodgson was asked yesterday if Allardyce, who took charge of Palace for six months last season and kept them in the Premier League, had apologised in the time since, and said: “No.”
When asked if that disappointed him, he added: “Do you like being insulted? No, not particularly. Did it bother me? I didn’t lose any sleep over it. My relationship with him before I always thought was good. Now I would expect it to be less good.”
