Tottenham boost: Real Madrid fear of missing out on Harry Kane

Spanish journalist Guillem Balague claims that Real Madrid feel as though they will be unable to sign Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane this summer.

The Spanish giants understand that the 23-year-old has a strong affinity to Spurs and Mauricio Pochettino and is currently not interested in leaving North London.

Instead, Los Blancos may well turn their attention to their prime target, Chelsea winger Eden Hazard.

Kane’s connection

Balague claims that despite interest from the defending European champions, it is currently unlikely that Kane will be departing Tottenham this summer.

The club are preparing to move into their impressive new 62,000 seater stadium next season, with Spurs desperate for their vice-captain to lead them out for the first game.

Balague said:

“Are they going for Harry Kane this summer? There will be suggestions, there will be rumours but they think Harry Kane will not leave Tottenham this summer.

At the moment they are not convinced he will move in the summer, with the emotional link to Spurs and to Mauricio Pochettino, but also while Cristiano is there Harry Kane has not got much to do.

In any case, Real Madrid may use Harry Kane to distract from the focus of their real attention which is Chelsea forward Eden Hazard.”

Best in Europe

Ahead of Saturday lunchtime’s highly-anticipated North London derby, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has labelled Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane the best striker in Europe.

Wenger when asked if there is a better striker in Europe than Spurs’ talisman:

“If you look at the numbers then, no.

I can talk and talk and talk, but it’s the numbers which will show that. The best way to defend is to have the numbers and take the game to them.”

Meanwhile, the French coach also commented on his own strikers, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette:

“Our strikers are top class as well and we want them to express their talent.”

Liverpool boss Klopp speaks out on Lallana’s outburst v Tottenham U23’s

Red mist

It wasn’t the greatest of weeks for Adam Lallana after he was seen to have lost his temper in a game for the Liverpool U23’s against Tottenham.

Lallana was given game time in the youth side to get back to full fitness after a small injury and a game like that was perfect for his recovery.

That was until it all turned very sour between the former Southampton man and one of Spurs’ young players.

The Englishman was shown a straight red after grabbing Tottenham youngster George Marsh, who had put in a hefty challenge.

Safe to say, he wasn’t happy in the slightest and his actions grabbed the headlines, leading to much criticism.

While not defending Lallana’s actions, Jurgen Klopp has come out and spoken about the incident in his press conference today.

It’s safe to say that he isn’t impressed by what happened with the player but that does not change his plans for this weekend.

In fact, the player still remains in contention for a spot against his former side Southampton.

‘It’s not nice. I spoke to him, it’s not how it should be. He wasn’t happy about the reaction and I wasn’t either.’ he explained.

‘When we played football, we all did a few things we weren’t proud of.

‘He’s an option for the squad (on Sunday). He’s in good shape and looks fresh but he has been injured twice now. We need to settle a little bit.’

Virgil van Dijk’s special treatment ahead of Liverpool v Southampton return

Another player who will be returning to Southampton this weekend is Virgil Van Dijk.

The defender moved to Anfield in a record-breaking deal in January and will be returning for the first time this weekend.

Though, while Van Dijk won’t be the only returning to St Mary’s, he will be getting some special treatment.

Huge Tottenham boost: Key man “in contention” to face Arsenal

Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed that new signing Lucas Moura is “in contention” to make his debut for Tottenham Hotspur in Saturday’s North London derby.

The Brazilian forward arrived from Paris Saint-Germain last month in a deal worth a reported £25m, with Pochettino looking to bolster his squad options.

The player has been yet to feature for the club, having had to watch Spurs defeat both Manchester United and Newport County from the stands and secure a draw away at Liverpool last Sunday.

“In contention”

With Tottenham fighting on three fronts this season, Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League, Lucas could prove to be a vital asset for Pochettino.

Upon arrival, there were a few concerns over the player’s level of fitness given he had made just five appearances all season for PSG.

However, after working hard in training the player looks set to make his first appearance for the club, likely off the bench, against Arsenal.

Pochettino said:

“I think he will be ready to be in contention. He’s doing well, training so hard.

He’s starting to feel his legs. We need to assess him tomorrow after the last training session but I hope’s he’s doing well and we can put him in contention.”

Alderweireld’s race to recovery

Meanwhile, on Toby Alderweireld’s potential involvement on Saturday, Pochettino said:

“No decision. Still no decision.”

The Belgian completed the full 90 minutes against Newport in the FA Cup on Wednesday, returning for the first time in nearly 100 days.

In his absence, Davinson Sanchez has been excellent, showing huge potential for the future, despite the odd lackadaisical moments that he is prone to.

Mauricio Pochettino admits this top class Tottenham star is a 'nasty' player

Mauricio Pochettino admits this top class Tottenham star is a ‘nasty’ player – originally posted on Sportslens.com

Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli has attracted a lot of criticism following his dive against Liverpool on Sunday.

The England international was booked immediately and Mauricio Pochettino believes that Alli’s dive was a simple matter of football trickery.

He also added that the Tottenham midfielder is a little bit nasty as a player.

Pochettino claimed that football is about tricking one’s opponent and a few decades ago players were appreciated when they managed to trick the officials.

He said: “Dele is not perfect. Nobody is perfect. He is a clever boy. He is a little bit nasty. Football is a creative sport in which you need the talent that grows in a very intelligent person, a very smart brain.”

Alli has already faced a backlash from the fans on social media and Pochettino’s comments are likely to provoke more reaction from the fans. Also, it might encourage the player to dive more in future.

The former MK Dons midfielder is a world-class talent and he is more than capable of making a difference on the pitch without having to cheat.

It will be interesting to see what happens in the future but Pochettino’s comments are unlikely to go down well with the rival fans for now. Also, the introduction of VAR could spell trouble for players looking to trick the match officials in future.

Max Allegri provides fitness updates on Juventus stars ahead of Tottenham

Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri this morning provided updates on the fitness of a number of his side’s players, ahead of their trip to Fiorentina tomorrow evening, and subsequent clash with Tottenham Hotspur next week.

Matchup

The return of the Champions League in 5 days’ time will see some mouthwatering fixtures played out, with Juventus welcoming Tottenham to Turin towards the top of the list.

Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs looked extremely impressive on their way to topping a group that featured both Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund late last year, while Juventus, Champions League finalists in 2 of the last 3 seasons, finished runners-up to runaway La Liga leaders Barcelona.

Improving

While the Bianconeri often looked short of their best during the first-half of the campaign, the form of Max Allegri’s men has begun to pick up over recent weeks, with Juve having not lost a fixture since a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Sampdoria in the middle of November.

Making this run even more impressive is the fact that the Serie A champions have conceded just one goal over the course of their last 15 matches across all competitions (including games with Barcelona and Napoli, and a 7-0 hammering of Sassuolo at the weekend).

Updates

Speaking in a press conference ahead of his side’s crunch Serie A matchup with fierce rivals Fiorentina tomorrow night, Bianconeri boss Max Allegri was drawn on the fitness of several of the club’s stars:

‘[Juan] Cuadrado is still out but we all knew that would be the case, Dybala, [Benedikt] Howedes and Matuidi are out then the others are available.’

There was more positive news for fans of the Old Lady regarding electric winger Douglas Costa, though, with Allegri revealing:

‘Douglas is fine, but I don’t think he’ll play from the beginning because [Federico] Bernardeschi is fine and it’s only right that Bernardeschi plays in an important match like tomorrow.’
