Manchester United are monitoring Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld contract situation: report

Manchester United reportedly keeping an eye on Tottenham Hotspurs defender Toby Alderweireld as they look to bring in recruitments in the summer.

Reports have claimed that Jose Mourinho is keen on bolstering his team’s defence after recent fixtures have exploited the club’s only weakness.

United’s losses to Newcastle and Tottenham were frustrating and of themselves but it was more so due to some defensive errors.

Against Tottenham Phil Jones was at fault, scoring an own goal whilst at Newcastle Chris Smalling was at fault after he conceded a free-kick for diving in which the Magpies capitalised on.

Rumours have surfaced that Mourinho is going to move on both players and is monitoring Alderweireld just in case an opportunity reveals itself.

According to the Mirror, Manchester Evening News reports that the Red Devils are keeping tabs on Toby whose contract runs out in the summer of 2019.

Spurs are currently attempting to negotiate a contract renewal but perhaps Jose will attempt to swoop in and buy him for a cheaper than usual price.

Although the Portuguese manager bought in Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof, Toby Alderweireld represents a more experienced option.

The soon to be 29 year old will surely add quality to Manchester United’s backline and has plenty of Premier League experience as well.

What the possible transfer means for both Bailly and Lindelof is yet to be seen but the move may prove too tempting for Jose Mourinho to ignore.

It could possibly be a case of Alderweireld attempting to negotiate a bigger pay raise at the London club too.

Tuesday’s Workwear Report: Wool Sheath Dress

Our daily workwear reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices.

This wool sheath dress from Brooks Brothers looks like a great basic for the office. I love the subtle diamond jacquard fabric as well as all of the darts and other seaming that elevates this a bit from the basic black sheath dress. It comes in both black and navy in regular and petite sizes 0–16 and is $298. (Don’t forget to check out our recent roundup of how to build a work wardrobe at Brooks Brothers!) Wool Sheath Dress

Here’s a lower-priced option that comes in misses, petites, woman, and woman petites at Talbots — also in both black and navy.

Key defender facing battle to face Sevilla this month: report

Eric Bailly is facing a race against time to recover full fitness in time for Manchester United’s trip to Sevilla in the Champions League on February 21, according to reports.

The defender has been absent from the squad since the November international break and underwent ankle surgery in December after conservative treatment failed to solve his problem.

Reports last month suggested that Bailly was ahead of schedule and in contention to recover in time for the last 16 clash at the Estadio Sanchez Pizjuan.

But according to ESPN‘s Mark Ogden, the meeting with Sevilla could come a week too soon for the defender, who continues to work on his fitness at Carrington away from the first team squad.

Jose Mourinho confirmed last week that Bailly, unlike Zlatan Ibrahimovic, hadn’t returned to training with the first team squad just yet, and with the clash coming in just a week’s time you would be surprised to see the Ivorian in the starting XI.

That said, his return is edging closer and supporters will be extremely glad to see him take the place of Chris Smalling, who bore the brunt of criticism from supporters following the 1-0 defeat to Newcastle following a truly reckless defensive display.

Opioid makers paid millions to advocacy groups: U.S. Senate report

(Reuters) – Five opioid manufacturers including OxyContin maker Purdue Pharma LP have paid more than $10 million to advocacy groups and doctors tied to them, many of whom amplified industry messages supporting the use of the painkillers, a U.S. Senate report said on Monday.

Splurge Monday’s Workwear Report: Jacquard Blazer

Our daily workwear reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices.

I’ve seen a lot of jacquard blazers that almost look like pajama tops, but the darts and the three-quarter sleeves on this one go a long way toward giving it a more tailored look. I love the paisley jacquard fabric because it’s so intricate and beautiful with the embroidery, and I like the edging as well. There’s very low stock, so if you like this blazer, grab it now. It’s at Net-a-Porter for $1,890. Jacquard Blazer

Here’s a lower-priced option at Bloomingdale’s (with a subtle paisley jacquard) and a much lower-priced option at Amazon in sizes 12–30.

Sexual Assault Case Against Seal Rejected by L.A. District Attorney's Office: Report

The sexual battery case filed against Seal by a former neighbor has been rejected by the Los Angeles District Attorney’s office, TMZ reports. The 54-year-old “Kiss from a Rose” singer will not face any criminal charges.

In January, TMZ reported that Seal was under criminal investigation for sexual battery, stemming from an alleged incident at his home in the fall of 2016 with actress Tracey Birdsall.

According to Birdsall, 54, Seal had allegedly forced himself on her in his kitchen — attempting to kiss her and later groping her breasts in advances she quickly pushed off and demanded he stop.

Though they were neighbors and developed a close friendship, Birdsall told TMZ there was never anything romantic between them and that his advances came out of nowhere. She claimed he belittled her outfit, insinuating the tank top and shorts she was wearing implied she was asking for it. After Seal allegedly groped her again, she said she left and has not had contact with him since.

Seal refuted Birdsall’s claims, with reps for the star telling PEOPLE in a statement he “vehemently denies the recent allegations made against him by a former neighbor for alleged misconduct more than a year ago.”

In the wake of Oprah Winfrey’s Golden Globes speech, Seal found himself in hot water when he posted a meme of Winfrey with disgraced Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein that read “When you have been part of the problem for decades, but suddenly they all think you are the solution.”

Seal added in the caption, “Oh I forgot, that’s right….. you’d heard the but you had no idea he was actually serially assaulting young -eyed actresses who in turn had no idea what they were getting into. My bad. #SanctimoniousHollywood.”

While the post appeared to be an attack on Winfrey — causing many, including Chrissy Teigen, to knock him — Seal posted an impassioned video to Facebook days later explaining that wasn’t his intention.

“What I reposted was commentary on the hypocritical and double standard nature and behavior of Hollywood,” he said. “To those of us who support the #MeToo movement, just know this: not one of the women who have been sexually abused, not one of the women who have come forward, has received any real justice whatsoever. Losing your job because you either a) raped, 2) sexually abused, or even sexually harassed a woman is not real punishment. You steal from the post office, you go to jail. And #RealTalk, we all know what would happen to any one of those power abusers if they looked like me.”

It appears his words resonated with Birdsall, who told TMZ she was inspired to contact authorities after watching his video.

FCC report finds almost no broadband competition at 100Mbps speeds

If you live in the US and want home Internet service at speeds of at least 100Mbps, you will likely find one Internet service provider in your area or none at all.

The latest Internet Access Services report was released by the Federal Communications Commission last week. The report’s broadband competition chart finds that 44 percent of developed Census blocks had zero home broadband providers offering download speeds of at least 100Mbps and upload speeds of at least 10Mbps.

Forty-one percent of developed Census blocks had one ISP offering such speeds, for a total of 85 percent with zero or one ISP. The remaining 15 percent had two or three providers at that level, as of the end of 2016. That’s up a bit from June 30, 2016, when about 12 percent of Census blocks had at least two providers of 100Mbps services.

Man Utd are interested in bringing in this Madrid star: report

Manchester United fans may be in for a treat after recent reports have linked the club with Real Madrid star Isco.

The Spaniard has apparently seen his match time decrease this season and there are rumours of manager Zinedine Zidane losing faith in him.

Should that be the case then it could be that United will be able to sign the attacking midfielder for a cheaper price than his actual value.

Isco is clearer one of the world’s best talents so it’s a little strange to think his time at Madrid has come to an end, particularly as Zidane appeared to favour him in the beginning.

Although there are questions of where he will play, supporters will surely just be excited to get their hands on such a talent and there may be added incentive of beating their rivals to the deal.

According to The Sport Review, Don Balon report that the Red Devils want to beat Manchester City in the transfer market once more by adding Isco to their ranks.

Manchester United just completed the signing of Alexis Sanchez in the January transfer window which adds to the claims of some skeptics who believe the deal is not on.

Another concern is that the rumours are just there to help secure the Real man a new contract at his current club and possibly a pay raise.

Players around the world consistently link themselves with United just so that they could scare their own clubs into giving into their demands.
