‘Mauricio Pochettino & Antonio Conte’s next moves hinge on Real Madrid vs PSG’

Real Madrid vs PSG

On Wednesday night in Spain, two of the best clubs in world football face off in the Champions League last-16.

Real Madrid are looking to win the UCL for a third season in a row, and for a fourth time in five years.

As for PSG, they are looking to lift the trophy for the first time. While the truth is that PSG have never progressed past the quarterfinals of the competition.

Massive match for Mauricio Pochettino & Antonio Conte

On the BBC’s Euro Leagues Football podcast, the case was made why Real Madrid versus PSG is huge for Tottenham and Chelsea.

The premise of the argument is that whichever team loses this tie will certainly sack their manager.

PSG boss Unai Emery has long been tipped for the Paris exit door at the end of the season anyway.

And when it comes to who’ll replace Emery, both Chelsea’s Antonio Conte and Tottenham’s Mauricio Pochettino are in the running.

Pochettino, of course, played for PSG in his playing days.

While Conte, who has been complaining about Chelsea’s recruitment policy at Stamford Bridge for months, is also supposedly on the PSG shortlist.

But what is Real Madrid are knocked out?

Fourth in La Liga, many wonder how Zinedine Zidane has held onto his job for this long.

Defeat to PSG would seal the French legend’s fate at the Santiago Bernabeu, while it’s widely believed that Pochettino is the number one target at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Can Real sign Pochettino from Spurs? Los Blancos have history dealing with Daniel Levy in the transfer of Gareth Bale.

It’s also worth pointing out that as a former Espanyol boss, Pochettino has made it clear in recent times that he’ll never be the manager of FC Barcelona.

Listen to the excellent discussion of how Mauricio Pochettino & Antonio Conte’s next moves hinge on Real Madrid vs PSG after 11 minutes on the audio unit below.

Marcelo: ‘Neymar will play for Real Madrid’

Real Madrid defender Marcelo has today insisted that international teammate Neymar will make a move to the Bernabeu at some stage in the future.

Following months of speculation surrounding his future, Brazilian attacker Neymar finally made the move from Barcelona to French giants Paris Saint-Germain in August of last year, for a world-record fee of 222 million Euro.

The 25-year-old has since gone on to enjoy a scintillating start to life in the French capital, having racked up an incredible 24 goals and 14 assists in 24 appearances between Ligue 1 and the Champions League.

On the move?

However, despite having only made the move to the Parc des Princes 6 months ago, Neymar has nevertheless already been heavily linked with a departure from PSG, with links between the South American attacker and European champions Real Madrid refusing to die down.

‘Will play for Real’

Speaking in an interview with Esporte Interativo ahead of Real Madrid’s clash with PSG in the Champions League last-16 on Wednesday night, Blancos’ defender Marcelo was questioned on the prospect of his Selecao international teammate joining him in the Spanish capital, with the 29-year-old convinced that Neymar will indeed make the move to the Bernabeu at one point or another:

‘I think Neymar will play for Real Madrid one day.’

‘Would Neymar fit at Real Madrid? He would fit, for sure.’

‘It would be great if he came to Real Madrid.’

‘In my opinion the great players have to play at this club.’

Bad news for Manchester United as Real Madrid consider record transfer

Bad news for Manchester United as Real Madrid consider record transfer – originally posted on Sportslens.com

According to Don Balon, Real Madrid are closing in on Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi. The 24-year-old is nearing a £96m move to Los Blancos, which would be bad news for fellow suitors Manchester United.

Icardi has been in fantastic form this season, scoring 18 goals in 22 Serie A games. The Argentine, who came to the San Siro from Sampdoria in 2013, has been linked with a move away for a record fee.

His reported release clause would make him Real’s and Manchester United’s most expensive signing, although the former look most likely to land his signature.

United manager Jose Mourinho has openly stated he won’t be signing another attacker in the summer but rather the midfield, so losing a player as talented as Icardi would be a major blow.

In his five years with the Nerazzurri, the prolific South American centre-forward has scored more than 90 goals in 170 games in all competitions. The former Barcelona youngster has three years left on his Inter contract, so the selling club hold all the cards.

Real need to replace the ageing Karim Benzema, and Don Balon suggest Icardi is one of many strikers on the lost of potential replacements. United have Romelu Lukaku, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Marcus Rashford so they boast enough depth up front.

Real Madrid vs PSG on Valentine’s Day

There will be plenty of males (and some females for sure as well!) checking their phones for live score updates on Valentine’s Day.

That is because one of the stand out Champions League matches takes place on Wednesday evening.

Real Madrid play PSG on Wednesday night in the Bernabeu for the first leg of one of the most important ties in the first knockout rounds.

Real Madrid have won the tournament in successive seasons. And, PSG have spent big to win that trophy from the Spanish giants.

Besides Manchester City and Barcelona, Real Madrid and PSG were favourites to win the tournament so this is an enormous tie from whatever angle you look at it.

Real Madrid rest Bale for PSG & blitz Real Sociedad

Both Real Madrid and PSG played their league games on Saturday, as they prepared for the big Champions League game.

Real Madrid took another step to securing a top four spot in La Liga by crushing Real Sociedad in the first half.

Goals from Lucas Vazquez, Cristiano Ronaldo (2) and Toni Kroos put Real Madrid in control of both the game and their hopes of a top four finish.

Gareth Bale was left on the bench for Real Madrid who are clearly wrapping the Welsh Express in cotton wool ahead of the match against PSG.

Neymar & PSG prepare for Real Madrid

PSG took another stride to the Ligue 1 title with a 1-0 win at Toulouse.

The only goal of the game came from Neymar, who scored on 68. Angel Di Maria bagged the assist.

PSG rested the likes of Edinson Cavani and Thiago Silva completely and Marco Verratti (who came off with 30 minutes to go).

Neymar played the whole game, which was something of a surprise considering how he hasn’t always played in tough PSG away matches this season.

Neymar reveals ankle injuries after Toulouse win

If you follow Neymar on Instagram, and nearly 90 million people do, you will know that Neymar often posts a message before every game.

And, then after matches, the Brazilian superstar hits Instagram Stories.

After Toulouse it was no different, and Neymar posted a picture of his ankle injuries following the Ligue 1 win.

The picture came with a “No pain, no gain” message from Neymar which suggests he should be fit to face the might of Real Madrid…

Was it a cheeky dig at the Toulouse defenders for kicking him too much?

Ohio's redistricting reform ballot measure is just a cynical Republican ploy to block real change

Ohio is home to some of the most extreme Republican gerrymandering in the country, so it may come as a surprise that the GOP-dominated legislature overwhelmingly approved a state constitutional amendment that would make the state’s congressional redistricting process more bipartisan. This measure had wide support from both parties, as well as the backing of nonpartisan reform groups. Consequently, it will almost certainly pass when it appears on the May 8 primary ballot. While it may seem astonishing that GOP legislators would willingly give limit their power, we take a far more cynical view as to their real motivations: This reform is intended to block more vigorous measures to end gerrymandering and create fairer maps, as we explain below.

Ohio currently lets the legislature draw a congressional map subject to gubernatorial veto. Republicans gained unified control over state government in 2010 and drew one of the most partisan gerrymanders in America. This map has given the GOP 12 of 16 seats in every election since its adoption, even in 2012 when Obama won the state 51-48. Reform advocates had been pushing for change for many years, and both the League of Women Voters and Common Cause had been backing a ballot initiative to create a bipartisan redistricting commission and had been gathering signatures for the November ballot. However, that effort will likely come to a halt now that reformers have accepted a compromise with legislators, but the devil is in the details.

The new amendment approved by the legislature would still leave legislators and party officials in charge of the process. However, for the legislature to pass a map, it would need 60 percent supermajority approval, including at least 50 percent of the members of the minority party. If the legislature can’t pass a map, it would go to the same bipartisan commission of officeholders that already handles legislative redistricting. That commission is made up of four legislators—two from each party—and the governor, secretary of state, and auditor. The panel would currently have a Republican majority thanks to the GOP’s hold on statewide offices, but at least two votes from the minority party would be required to pass a map.

However, if the commission can’t reach an agreement, the legislature gets another crack. The legislature would still need a 60 percent supermajority, but this time the share of votes required from the minority party would go down to just one third. But here’s the critical part: If all those convoluted steps still fail to produce a map, the legislature gets to pass a map with a simple majority and no minority-party veto, although the map would only be good for four years instead of the usual 10. And what happens after four years? They can do it all over again.

Perfect Cristiano Ronaldo: Real Madrid selection clues before PSG

Real Madrid 5 – Real Sociedad 2

Real Madrid scored five time on Saturday night in La Liga.

Lowly Real Sociedad lost 5-2 at the Santiago Bernabeu, as Cristiano Ronaldo stole the headlines once again.

The 33-year-old scored a hat-trick for Los Blancos. Moreover, it was a ‘perfect’ hat-trick: a header, and goals with his left and right boots.

Lucas Vazquez got the ball rolling for Real scoring after just 55 seconds. Toni Kroos also found the target for Madrid. Jon Bautista and Asier Illarramendi bagged second half consolation goals for Sociedad.

Real Madrid are fourth in the Spanish top flight.

Real Madrid vs PSG

This week, on Valentine’s Day, Real Madrid take on PSG in the Champions League.

The match in Spain is the first of the two legged last-16 knockout tie.

Zinedine zidane made a few changes to his starting XI against Sociedad. Most noticeably, Gareth Bale was left on the bench. The Welsh star was brought on as a second half sub, and Bale looks set to start against PSG in midweek.

Nacho and Casemiro were also given the night off against Sociedad. The right-back and defensive midfielder should also return against the Ligue 1 powerhouse.

It was also eye-catching that Luka Modric was subbed out of Saturday’s game just after the hour mark.

Toulouse 0 – PSG 1

PSG were also in actin on Saturday, winning 1-0 away at Toulouse.

Neymar scored the only goal of the game midway through the second half.

PSG have a 12 point lead over Monaco at the top of the French Ligue 1.

Tottenham boost: Real Madrid fear of missing out on Harry Kane

Spanish journalist Guillem Balague claims that Real Madrid feel as though they will be unable to sign Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane this summer.

The Spanish giants understand that the 23-year-old has a strong affinity to Spurs and Mauricio Pochettino and is currently not interested in leaving North London.

Instead, Los Blancos may well turn their attention to their prime target, Chelsea winger Eden Hazard.

Kane’s connection

Balague claims that despite interest from the defending European champions, it is currently unlikely that Kane will be departing Tottenham this summer.

The club are preparing to move into their impressive new 62,000 seater stadium next season, with Spurs desperate for their vice-captain to lead them out for the first game.

Balague said:

“Are they going for Harry Kane this summer? There will be suggestions, there will be rumours but they think Harry Kane will not leave Tottenham this summer.

At the moment they are not convinced he will move in the summer, with the emotional link to Spurs and to Mauricio Pochettino, but also while Cristiano is there Harry Kane has not got much to do.

In any case, Real Madrid may use Harry Kane to distract from the focus of their real attention which is Chelsea forward Eden Hazard.”

Best in Europe

Ahead of Saturday lunchtime’s highly-anticipated North London derby, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has labelled Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane the best striker in Europe.

Wenger when asked if there is a better striker in Europe than Spurs’ talisman:

“If you look at the numbers then, no.

I can talk and talk and talk, but it’s the numbers which will show that. The best way to defend is to have the numbers and take the game to them.”

Meanwhile, the French coach also commented on his own strikers, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette:

“Our strikers are top class as well and we want them to express their talent.”

'Hanging Up the Orange': Lydia McLaughlin Is Leaving Real Housewives of Orange County – Again

Lydia McLaughlin is “hanging up the orange.”

The Real Housewives of Orange County star is taking a “break” from the Bravo reality series and will not be returning for season 13, she announced in a blog post on her website.

RHOC has given me a great platform and I’m grateful for that. However, I feel like I can only handle this show one season at a time. I need a break! There is a lot of good that comes from the show, but also a lot of negativity. After a family vote, it was unanimous that I should take a break. Sometimes the people who love us the most see things even we don’t see. I trust my path and I’m excited for what the future holds,” she began the post.

McLaughlin, 36, said that she has “made great friendships” through starring on the show and feels “honored to be a source of entertainment and inspiration” to her fans.

“Being a full time mom to THREE little boys, publisher of NOBLEMAN Magazine, blogger, jewelry designer, author, and wife, I have a lot going on! I will continue to share my life and faith and use this platform to be a lightworker,” she continued.

Though the Bravo personality admitted that she “can’t help and be a little sad for my departure,” she is confident in her decision: I “100% feel it is the best for me and my family.”

“Lots of other dreams to make come true in my life and in no way do I want to make a career out of being a housewife. That just isn’t me. Life is short and I choose to focus on what makes me happy and brings me joy,” she said.

The mother of three — she shares sons Stirling, 9, Maverick, 6, and Roman, 3, with husband Doug McLaughlin — originally appeared on season 8 of RHOC and “decided to take a break and write a book and have my third baby” before she returned for season 12.

“That was the right decision for me although many people didn’t understand why I would walk away,” she said of leaving after season 8. “Gods plan is always good and it was the perfect timing for me with the launch of NOBLEMAN Magazine to return for season 12.”

She added: “I feel it is now, the perfect twist to once again hang up my orange.”
