Pundit claims this Man Utd star may consider leaving

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has claimed that Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford may have to leave the club in search for first team football.

Alexis Sanchez’s arrival from the Gunners in January sparked a debate on what the move could mean for United’s youngsters.

Anthony Martial and Rashford in particular have been the ones who the press are seemingly concerned about given the position they share.

Both players play in Sanchez’s preferred left wing position and some people have claimed he will derail their development.

Henry appears to be on board with that assessment and thinks there may come a time for Marcus to reconsider his position at the club.

According to Goal, Thierry said on Sky Sports: “One of the most important things for me is that you have to play. You cannot be on the bench and missing games, missing learning about the game and stopping that momentum, and an example is Rashford.

“Michael Owen had the opportunity to back up what he did the year before because he played, and he played, and he played, and he played – and I can give you more examples.

“But Rashford at times could not capitalise on what he did from that year [after his debut], because sometimes he is playing on the right, [sometimes] on the left.

“Leave is a strong word. Obviously being from there, he wants to play for United. But he has to play and it is becoming even more difficult for him since Sanchez has arrived.

“I think at the end of the season, he is maybe going to have a thinking day of ‘do I stay?’”

Thierry Henry as well as the other pundits or critics’ assessment of the situation seems to be a little unfounded given how things actually are.

Anthony’s game time has not decreased at all since the Chileans arrival to the club whilst Marcus Rashford missed, for the first time this season, the Red Devils’ match squad due to injury and not Alexis Sanchez.

The Englishman has been heavily involved with Manchester United this season just as he had been last seen with Jose Mourinho showing him preferential treatment.

Perhaps the reason why some people are concerned is due to Sanchez’s arrival coinciding with Rashford’s poor form which has seen him drop to the bench.

In fact, it’s Anthony Martial who has overtaken the academy product due to his own good form that allowed him to win the January player of the month for Manchester United.

Links between Man United & Napoli star intensify

Italian outlet Rai Sport are the latest publication to insist that Premier League giants Manchester United are considering a move for Napoli midfielder Jorginho.

Metronome

Jorginho, a Brazilian-born Italian international, joined Napoli from Hellas Verona for 9.5 million Euro in 2014, since going on to develop into one of the finest midfielders in Serie A.

In an incredible statistic, it was revealed last summer that the 26-year-old made more passes per game than any other player in Europe’s top 5 leagues last season (as per Football-Italia.net).

Sitting in his deep-lying midfield berth, the Verona youth product has flourished behind Napoli’s fearsome attacking quartet of Marek Hamsik, Jose Callejon, Lorenzo Insigne and Dries Mertens, and has started 21 of his side’s 24 Serie A fixtures to this point in the campaign.

PL links

Despite his near-indispensable presence in Maurizio Sarri’s Partneopei squad, though, Jorginho has often been linked with a departure from the San Paolo over recent seasons, with Arsenal having long been touted as a potential destination.

However, as per a number of reports emanating from Italy over recent months, it is in fact Manchester United who look to have jumped to the front of the queue for Jorginho, having held talks with the representatives of the midfielder regarding a summer switch to the club.

The Red Devils are known to be on the lookout for reinforcements in the middle of the park, with Ander Herrera struggling for form and Michael Carrick set to retire at the end of the season.

Manchester battle?

And, as per the aforementioned update from Rai Sport this afternoon, it was Jorginho’s performances during Napoli’s Champions league group stages matchups with Manchester City which caught the eye of United, with Jose Mourinho and co. having been keeping tabs on him since.

However, Rai also claim that Manchester City could rival the Red Devils for Jorginho’s signature in the summer, with Pep Guardiola keen to add another deep-lying creative influence to his Citizens’ squad.

QPR's Goss reveals which Man Utd legend helped him

Former Manchester United player Sean Goss has revealed that Paul Scholes helped him during his time at Old Trafford when he was a youngster.

The German born Englishman left to QPR last season but was an important figure in United’s academy where he won two U21 Premier League titles.

Scholes of course was a one club man, working his way up the ranks to become a club icon where he won a host of individual and team trophies.

When the Englishman eventually did retire he temporarily worked with the club’s younger teams, helping pass on all his experience.

Goss was one of the players who worked directly with Paul and was in absolute awe of his talent as most professional footballers were.

According to Get West London, Sean said to the Scottish Sun: “We’d a few sessions just doing ball work then progressing on. His [Paul Scholes’] technique was unbelievable.

“You could never turn your back on the training pitch. Even when you were going for a drink, you had to lower your head, or he’d hit you with the ball.

“All the senior pros at United were great. There’s a tight bond between the first team and youth players, they want to help you out. I’d go out after training to practise my free kicks.

“Paul gave us a bit of a head start as well, because he was our Under-19s manager for the Champions League too. I’d try to copy him and also David Beckham when I was really young.”

Sean Goss sadly left the Red Devils who rated him highly due to his desire to play first team football consistently as it looked difficult to break into the current squad at the club.

The midfielder is now at Rangers, on loan from his parent club, as he attempts to establish himself as a talented player and not just a youngster.

At 22 years of age, he’s perfectly set up to impress abroad before returning to London and blowing the Championship away.

Paul Scholes is certainly the ideal player to look up to for Goss, particularly as he plays in the same position and can learn directly from the legend’s game.

Whether Sean returns in the future to United as Paul Pogba did is yet to be seen but Jose Mourinho already has a young central midfielder in the form of Scott McTominay.

Thierry Henry fears for Man United’s Marcus Rashford

Thierry Henry on Marcus Rashford

On Sky Sports’s Monday Night Football show, Marcus Rashford was the focus of attention for Thierry Henry.

Man United were beaten 1-0 at Newcastle last weekend. Matt Ritchie was the hero for the Magpies.

Rashford missed the game at St James’ Park with a thigh injury picked up in the Huddersfield match.

Yet, looking at the wider picture for Rashford at Old Trafford, Henry is wondering if the forward needs to consider moving on.

Rashford to leave Man United?

Thierry Henry argued why Rashford may be wise to explore his options:

You cannot be on the bench and missing games, missing learning about the game and stopping that momentum, and an example is Rashford.

Michael Owen had the opportunity to back up what he did the year before because he played, and he played, and he played, and he played – and I can give you more examples.

But Rashford at times could not capitalise on what he did from that year [after his debut], because sometimes he is playing on the right, [sometimes] on the left.

Leave is a strong word. Obviously being from there, he wants to play for United. But he has to play and it is becoming even more difficult for him since Sanchez has arrived.

I think at the end of the season, he is maybe going to have a thinking day of ‘do I stay?’

But is Henry peddled ‘fake news’ about Rashford?

Up until the Newcastle game, Rashford had appeared in every Premier League for United this season.

While he may not have started every game, Jose Mourinho has relied on the England international a lot this season.

Juan Mata sends message to Man United supporters following Newcastle defeat

Juan Mata has expressed his dismay after Manchester United suffered a 1-0 defeat at Newcastle United on Sunday afternoon.

Jose Mourinho’s men created a litany of chances, with Anthony Martial missing a one-on-one with Martin Dubravka and Alexis Sanchez failing to take advantage of an open goal, before they were made to pay for their sloppiness by Matt Ritchie’s 65th minute goal.

Martial and Michael Carrick both went painfully close to claiming a late equaliser but Newcastle stood firm to register their first win at home since October.

And Mata, writing in his weekly blog, adopted a notably disappointed tone when reflecting on the defeat to Rafa Benitez’s side.

“Unfortunately this is one of those days when you don’t feel in the best mood to update your blog, neither do you to read it,” he wrote.

“It’s not easy to write after a defeat. The truth is, after losing an away game you think a lot about it on your way back home. You remember every play, every moment, and you try to change the outcome but obviously that’s impossible.

“You can’t turn back time, so the only way to carry on is to turn all this rage into a desire to win, work and attitude for the next game.

“The 1-0 in Newcastle hurts because we had chances to score both in the first and in the second half, but they took better advantage of their weapons.

“We already have to focus on the FA Cup and Huddersfield. It will be a great opportunity to prove that a new win can help to forget yesterday’s game. By the way, thank you to those who travelled to Newcastle, you deserved a different game and a different score.”

This was a not a performance from the same cut of cloth as woeful displays away to Huddersfield Town or Tottenham Hotspur, and perhaps on another day United would have found the opening goal which has so often served as a platform for solid wins this season.

But the cold reality is that United, with 27 games of the season gone, still don’t have a known best starting XI, or even a formation that Mourinho and his staff have agreed upon.

And yet, somehow, they have remained second throughout most of the campaign – a sign of the natural talent and winning nous in the side as well as the fallibility of teams like Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal and Liverpool.

In other words, the margin for improvement – greater execution, greater tenacity, greater diversity of options – is massive, and ought to serve as a positive challenge for next season.

Arturo Vidal breaks silence over Man United transfer rumours

Manchester United target Arturo Vidal has made it clear that he has no intentions of leaving Bayern Munich in the summer.

The Chile international, who was heavily pursued by Man United to no avail in 2014, could be moved along following the arrival of Leon Goretzka from Schalke.

And Jose Mourinho, according to reports, has pinpointed Vidal as one of his main midfield targets ahead of the retirement of Michael Carrick and possible departure of Marouane Fellaini in the summer.

But Vidal, when asked about the rumours, was adamant that he wasn’t planning on going anywhere in the transfer window.

“I’m not thinking about a transfer. I feel very comfortable here,” he said.

“Of course I would like to extend my contract. That’s an option. My kids are very happy here, too.”

With Ander Herrera also reportedly subject to interest from AC Milan, plans need to be put in place ahead of the summer to secure two midfielders at the very least.

And with the transfer window set to be shorter than normal, United simply cannot waste their time chasing dead ends, or even players who need convincing. The case of Vidal in 2014, along with David Moyes’ numerous failed transfer exploits the year before, are examples of why doing this can be fatal.

Pursuing the likes of Nice’s Jean Michel Seri and Real Madrid’s Mateo Kovacic, therefore, would be far more sensible given that the pair both expressed a desire to leave last summer and will be on the market next time around.

Man City surprise: Ederson’s shock contract offer

Man City & Ederson

According to the Sun on Tuesday morning, Manchester City are gearing up to lock Ederson down to a new contract.

That’s something of a surprise as the Brazilian number two only joined Man City seven months ago from Benfica.

Many questioned whether Man City’s £34 million investment in Ederson was smart business. But nowadays it’s easy to argue that Pep Guardiola picked up a bargain when the South American signed.

Only Man United (19) have conceded less than Man City (20) this season.

Ederson has kept 12 clean sheets in his first season in the Premier League. While he’s challenged the stereotype of what a goalie does in a game with his fabulous array of passes.

Ederson’s shock City contract offer

The Sun are sketchy on all the details of a possible new deal for Ederson.

The tabloid have no idea when the deal is coming, how long it will survive for, or any of the financials associated with the agreement. Instead readers are told:

Etihad chiefs want to reward him with fresh terms, upping his lowly £70,000-a-week wages.

He is contracted until 2022, but Guardiola believes he can be City’s number one for nearly the next decade.

Loooocoo… What was the sun doing at the end of the game mendy?😂😂😂

Basel vs Manchester City

How many people will be tuning into this match on Tuesday night?

While the lion’s share of the attention in the Champions League tonight will be on the Juventus vs Tottenham game, Pep Guardiola will be hoping to avoid any slip up in Switzerland.

Basel are arguably the weakest team left in the UCL, and Man City should have no problems reaching the quarterfinals.

In a welcome shock for the Sky Blues, it’s believed Leroy Sane may be in the starting XI in his standard left-wing role.

Agent confirms Gareth Bale's position on joining Man United

Gareth Bale’s agent Jonathan Barnett has confirmed that his client has no intention to leave Real Madrid in the summer.

Jose Mourinho publicly expressed interest in the Welshman over the summer when it appeared he may be dispensable for Zinedine Zidane ahead of the potential signing of Kylian Mbappe.

Any possible deal was off the table when Mbappe joined Paris Saint Germain instead, but reports of Man United’s interest have nonetheless refused to subside this season.

But Barnett, when asked about Bale’s future, insisted that his client wasn’t planning on going anywhere over the summer.

“I really respect Raiola and Jorge Mendes, we are like the Ronaldo, Messi and Neymar of agents,” he said. “Bale? I think he’s worth as much as Neymar. He loves Real Madrid and doesn’t want to leave. Gareth does not need Ronaldo to leave Real Madrid, he is already a top star of the club.”

“Bale is such a positive example for children. You will never see him in a fast food. He goes to bed early and I don’t think he is worse than Neymar. He can also battle it out for the Ballon d’Or in the future. When he joined Real Madrid Florentino Perez gifted me a pen to sign contracts. I always have it with me now.

“I think no Serie A club can afford to buy Bale. There was the interest of a top Italian club but I can’t name it. Tottenham, however, refused to sell him.”

Whether or not Bale wants to stay at the Bernabeu is somewhat beside the point given that wholesale changes are expected to occur at Madrid over the summer of which the winger could be a victim.

But given that Mourinho noted last year – back when he needed an attacking winger – that pursuing Bale would be time consuming and difficult, you sense that notion will be doubly pertinent next summer as the 54-year-old places emphasis on bolstering his midfield and full-back options.

Why Laporte missed Man City training ahead of Basel

The reason behind Aymeric Laporte’s absence from Manchester City training earlier today has been revealed this evening, ahead of the Citizens’ clash with Basel.

CL return

The two sides are set to go head to head in the first-leg of their Champions League last-16 tie tomorrow night at St. Jakob-Park, with City having had a number of injury concerns ahead of the release of their travelling squad earlier today.

All of Leroy Sane, David Silva, Fabian Delph and Aymeric Laporte were viewed as doubts do to be named in the 20-man panel of the Premier League leaders, though an official announcement has since seen all 4 included.

Boost

The possible absence of Laporte came out of the blue this morning, when it was confirmed that City’s big-money January signing had missed training with the rest of the Sky Blues’ squad.

However, as confirmed by reliable journalist Jose Alvarez Haya this evening, Laporte’s absence this morning was due to illness rather than injury, with the Spanish stopper set to be available for selection from the start tomorrow night:

Murphy allegedly told investigators he had thought about killing his family for months. Saying it was “something that had to do,” KMGH-TV reports. When asked why, Murphy allegedly replied, “to be by myself.”

During the hearing, prosecutors discussed Murphy’s alleged history of violent thoughts and mental illness, which included being treated at local psychiatric facilities multiple times, according to the Colorado Springs Gazette.

Two years before the alleged October attack, Murphy allegedly hid in the bathroom of his Lincoln, Nebraska, high school with a plan to strangle the next person who came in, the Gazette reports. He never carried out his plan due to his nerves, he told investigators.

The hearing was attended by Murphy’s parents, who sat in the front row and were visible upset, according to the paper.
