The list of cabinet members and top advisers Donald Trump isn’t thinking of firing is starting to look shorter than the list of people on the chopping block. First up, Trump has reportedly decided to replace national security adviser H.R. McMaster, though he’s been talked into being generous and not planning to do it by tweet: Trump is now comfortable with ousting McMaster, with whom he never personally gelled, but is willing to take time executing the move because he wants to ensure both that the three-star Army general is not humiliated and that there is a strong successor lined up, these people said. [...] Some in the White House have been reluctant to oust McMaster from his national security perch until he has a promotion to four-star rank or other comfortable landing spot. They are
Tax-filing season has begun in Malaysia, and the task of trying to save money through claiming tax relief and rebates can be confusing. To help make things a little clearer, we run through the list of all items eligible for tax relief, with explanations for some of the more confusing entries. It’s mid-March and we Malaysians are right smack in the thick of the tax-filing season. For most of us, filing our taxes can prove to be messy and confusing no matter how many times we’ve gone through the process. From not knowing which category to when filing online, to missing out on claiming for rebates on tax-relief-qualified items, there are so many things to consider when filing for taxes. Add to this the ever-present financial squeeze brought upon us by our short-term and long-term expenses,
Forbes released its 2018 list of billionaires last week, and while there haven’t been major shifts from the list that we compiled last year, the entrance of Razer founder and CEO Min-Liang Tan into the club was something that caught the attention of many. Screenshot from Forbes With a net worth of US$1.1 billion (S$1.44 billion), Min-Liang Tan isn’t just the second youngest on the list at 40 (Kishin RK is 35) – he’s also the only one proudly helming the tech/gaming flag. Globally, however, tech moguls lead the pack, with Amazon’s Jeff Bezos (US$112 billion) and Microsoft’s Bill Gates (US$90 billion) taking the top 2 spots. Perhaps soon our list will reflect the same trends, and Min-Liang Tan might just become the pioneer of tech billionaires in Singapore...
ProPublica went to the work of compiling a full list of Trump appointees and their industry or lobbying ties. Think of it as a cheat sheet letting you know who's the most likely to end up in prison after this. Here’s what we found: At least 187 Trump political appointees have been federal lobbyists, and despite President Trump’s campaign pledge to “drain the swamp,” many are now overseeing the industries they once lobbied on behalf of. We’ve also discovered ethics waivers that allow Trump staffers to work on subjects in which they have financial conflicts of interest. The term "ethics waiver" is an odd term, by the way. Getting a "waiver" from "ethics" is something only a government or a religion could think up. It also does nothing to waive the various federal laws that make self-servin
