During a speech to donors in Missouri on Wednesday, President Trump admitted to simply making stuff up during a recent meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. “Trudeau came to see me. He’s a good guy, Justin. He said, ‘No, no, we have no trade deficit with you, we have none. Donald, please,’ ” Trump said, mimicking Trudeau, according to The Washington Post, which obtained audio of the event. “Nice guy, good-looking guy, comes in — ‘Donald, we have no trade deficit.’ He’s very proud because everybody else, you know, we’re getting killed.” “ … So, he’s proud. I said, ‘Wrong, Justin, you do.’ I didn’t even know. … I had no idea. I just said, ‘You’re wrong.’ You know why? Because we’re so stupid. … And I thought they were smart. I said, ‘You’re wrong, Justin.’ He
The president thinks it’s a good idea. The secretary of education thinks it should be an option. But 56 percent of Americans say that arming teachers is a bad idea. The proposal to arm educators as a deterrent to school shootings has been gaining steam in the wake of a mass shooting at a high school in Parkland, Florida last month that left 17 dead. Florida’s state legislature passed such a proposal in recent days, and Alabama and Mississippi are taking up their own bills that go further than Florida’s in many respects. Michigan, Maryland, and New York have all considered passing similar bills as well. But as incidents involving firearms being lost or mishandled on school grounds continue, the concept of increasing the number of weapons on campus becomes more difficult to
Paul Scholes has hit out at Manchester United’s complete lack of speed, energy or desire during their 2-1 defeat to Sevilla in the Champions League. Jose Mourinho’s men started tentatively and afforded Sevilla plenty of possession during what was a dour first half. Man United picked up the pace briefly after the break but failed to clearcut opportunities, and ultimately found themselves victim of two sucker-punches from Yassim Ben Yedder in quick succession. And Scholes, speaking on BT Sport of the game, was on the verge of speechlessness. Scholes: “There was no desire, no energy, no speed about the team. It’s unexplainable.” #mufc — United Report (@ManUtdReport_) March 13, 2018 Mourinho can rightly claim to have excellent pedigree in this competition and in Euro
Education Secretary Betsy DeVos is pushing back on one of the major embarrassments in an interview filled with embarrassments: her seeming ignorance about whether Michigan public schools have gotten better since she used her family’s billions to push a privatization agenda. Of course, her pushback takes the form of a whine about the media and some misleading data. xHere’s what we shared with @60Minutes, which of course they didn’t show you: Michigan, like much of the nation, isn’t doing well enough to prepare students. Scores are stagnant. Students need more options, and we must rethink our approach to education. pic.twitter.com/GJ0kdI2GPE— Betsy DeVos (@BetsyDeVosED) March 12, 2018 So … Michigan used to be average or above average, and now it’s below average, and this sh
On the heels of a 60 Minutes performance so bad it reportedly alarmed White House officials, Education Secretary Betsy DeVos took to Twitter to try to defend herself. “Here’s what we shared with 60 Minutes, which of course they didn’t show you: Michigan, like much of the nation, isn’t doing well enough to prepare students. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt hasn’t made much of an effort to hide the fact that he rejects the overwhelming scientific consensus on climate change. Over the past year, Pruitt has falsely claimed that carbon dioxide is not a top contributor to climate change, and that humans have “flourished” in warming trends; he has also overseen a purge of scientists from EPA advisory boards and was personally involved in erasing key climate change information from the agency’s website. Pruitt has also been pushing the idea of nationally televised debates challenging climate science. But John Kelly, the embattled White House chief of staff, killed the idea for fear it could become “a damaging spectacle,” the New York Times reported Friday...

Trophies Roy Keane has hit out at the lack of trophies won by Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur, and noted that he expects them to be doing far more. The former Manchester United player claimed he thinks the duo should at least be winning FA Cups – and while the focus is of course on the Champions League, they need to be winning something to get in their trophy cabinet. “For a club the size of Liverpool and Tottenham, one trophy in 10 years is pretty embarrassing. “I know the Champions League has taken over now, particularly with the money behind it, but to be successful to be a big club you need to win trophies. “The clubs you’re talking about, Liverpool and Spurs, should be able to compete in the Champions League and certainly qualify, and win an FA Cup or a League Cup. “[Of] course
