Chelsea face major competition from Paris Saint-Germain to secure the services of former Barcelona manager Luis Enrique.

Spanish football expert Guillem Balague has claimed the 47-year-old has been approached by intermediaries acting on behalf of both clubs with a view to appointing him this summer.

Current Chelsea boss Antonio Conte signed a new two-year contract at Stamford Bridge in July 2017, but he has been widely tipped to leave the club at the end of the season.

“It will be an interesting dilemma for him, because he of course will want to go to a team who can challenge for absolutely everything,” Balague told Sky Sports.

“It’s quite clear that the PSG option provides him with the opportunity to win titles, but in the case of Chelsea, he has been preparing for the possibility of going to the Premier League for a long time.

“He has been learning English for a while, and he has told me in the past that he has a fascination with the Premier League, but his future is not determined yet.”

Enrique left Barcelona at the end of last season after winning nine major trophies during his time in charge at the Nou Camp.

He decided to take a year out of the game, but he is eager to step back into management this summer and Balague says Enrique could also have offers from elsewhere.

“I haven’t heard of an offer from Arsenal – of course he would be a candidate if they got rid of Arsene Wenger, but I don’t think they have reached that stage yet,” he added.

“It’s an interesting situation for Luis Enrique in terms of who will go with him, but he is determined to work again next season if the conditions are right.

“Most of his favoured backroom staff are either at Barcelona or Celta. Juan Carlos Unzue is his usual No 2, and he’s Celta manager at the moment, and I’ve got the impression he wants to continue being a No 1.

“What Luis Enrique wants to do is coach at the highest level, and he has the opportunity to do so either at PSG or Chelsea.

“But there is no point in making a decision now, because there will be more clubs interested in him later in the season.”

Early injury blow for West Brom vs Chelsea

West Bromwich Albion have this evening been dealt a major injury blow during the early stages of their Premier League clash with Chelsea.

Matchup

The two sides are currently locked in action at Stamford Bridge, with Antonio Conte’s men desperate for all 3 points following a dismal run of form which saw the Blues fall to consecutive 3-goal defeats at the hands of Bournemouth and Watford.

Tonight’s result could prove particularly decisive regarding Antonio Conte’s future in the English capital, with widespread claims over the last week that a loss will see the Italian tactician sacked by Chelsea.

West Brom, meanwhile, have fallen to defeats in their last 2 Premier League outings, the latter of which came in hugely disappointing fashion at home to fellow strugglers Southampton.

Ahead of tonight, the Baggies sat rock bottom of the English top-flight table, a full 5 points behind 19th-placed Stoke City.

Teams

The lineups for tonight’s crucial matchup were announced an hour prior to kick-off, with a number of notable inclusions and absences for hosts Chelsea.

Andreas Christensen returned to the heart of the Blues’ defence following a spell on the sidelines, while Olivier Giroud earned his first start for the Premier League champions up front.

Cesc Fabregas was also included from the start, stepping in for the suspended Tiemoue Bakayoko, while Alvaro Morata was fit enough for a place on the Chelsea bench.

However, Marcos Alonso was a notable absentee, with the Spaniard having been a surprise late scratch from the Blues’ squad for their clash with Watford last week as a ‘precautionary measure’.

West Brom boss Alan Pardew, meanwhile, opted for the following, with Daniel Sturridge joining Salomon Rondon in a dangerous-looking forward line for the Baggies:

Crocked

However, in a massive blow for the visitors with just 2 minutes on the clock, Danny Sturridge went to ground clutching his hamstring following an innocuous challenge from Cesar Azpilicueta, with the 28-year-old eventually succumbing to the problem and making his way down the Stamford Bridge tunnel with frustration etched across his face.

Jay Rodriguez was introduced as Sturridge’s replacement, with the Liverpool loanee’s slim hopes of earning a place in England’s World Cup squad taking a possibly fatal blow.

Chelsea fans urge Antonio Conte to continue without 2 players following West Brom win

Supporters of Chelsea have this evening pleaded with manager Antonio Conte to move forward over the coming weeks with a pair of players omitted from the club’s starting lineup.

In front

Following a shaky opening quarter of an hour for Chelsea, the Blues began to take firm control of proceedings as the half wore on, with Eden Hazard looking particularly dangerous.

And it was the brilliant Belgian who went on to break the deadlock with 25 minutes on the clock, playing a neat one-two with Olivier Giroud on the edge of the West Brom box before rifling home a perfect finish into the bottom-left corner of Ben Foster’s goal.

3-0

The second-half saw the home side maintain their dominance, with Victor Moses handing the Premier League champions a deserved second after Cesc Fabregas’ pass landed fortuitously at the feet of the Nigerian inside the West Brom box.

And Eden Hazard soon put the game firmly to bed with his brace and Chelsea’s 3rd of the night, picking up the ball on the right corner of the Baggies’ box before cutting inside and drilling a wonderful finish with his left foot past the wrong-footed Ben Foster.

Reaction

It was a much-needed performance and result for Antonio Conte’s men, with droves of Chelsea’s fans having since taken to social media to point to the fact that neither Gary Cahill or Tiemoue Bakayoko were included from the start this evening, a factor which many believe played a huge part in the Blues’ change of fortunes.

As such, with Spanish giants Barcelona set to travel to Stamford Bridge next week in the last 16 of the Champions League, the Blues’ faithful have pleaded with their manager to continue without the duo moving forward:

While it was Man of the Match Hazard who understandably took the majority of the plaudits following the full-time whistle this evening, another of Chelsea’s stars came in for just as much praise online, following his own stellar showing.

The player in question was Cesar Azpilicueta, who played a captain’s role for Antonio Conte’s men throughout the 90 minutes tonight with typically no-nonsense defending, perfect positioning, flawless distribution and improving leadership qualities.

Chelsea host West Bromwich Albion on Monday aiming to bounce back from two disappointing performances.

The Blues crashed 3-0 at at home to Bournemouth and followed up with a 4-1 humbling at Watford to crank up the pressure on manager Antonio Conte.

Chelsea’s top four hopes were boosted this weekend by defeats for Arsenal and Manchester United and a win tonight would leave just four points separating second and fifth place.

Eden Hazard scored twice in Chelsea’s 4-0 victory at West Bromwich Albion back in November and Conte will be hoping for a similar performance at Stamford Bridge.

The Baggies are currently rooted to the bottom of the Premier League, seven points adrift of 17th placed Huddersfield Town.

Chelsea are priced at 1/3 to win the game, with West Brom on offer at 10/1. The draw is available at 3/1.

Why this Chelsea player was lauded for involvement in opener vs West Brom

On a night where it is win or bust for Antonio Conte at Chelsea, his side lead West Bromwich Albion at half-time courtesy of Eden Hazard.

The Blues broke the deadlock after 25 minutes, with some wonderfully worked, intricate play resulting in the Belgian slotting home his tenth goal of the season.

However, it was Olivier Giroud who got the plaudits for his involvement in the goal, as he produced a fine bit of link up play to help put Chelsea ahead.

Chelsea’s goal

Giroud demonstrated exactly why Conte was so desperate to add a player of his ilk, as he produced an excellent piece of hold-up play to set-up Hazard.

The 27-year-old spun off the Baggies’ back-line, charging into the penalty area before combing with the Frenchman to lash the ball home from just a few yards out.

This season, Chelsea have struggled to find a settled number 9, with both Alvaro Morata and Michy Batshuayi failing to make an impact at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea supporters will be hoping that Giroud can provide that much-needed spark in attack as they look to secure a spot in this season’s top four.

John Terry playing for Aston Villa vs Chelsea is on

Aston Villa 2 – Birmingham City 0

It was the perfect weekend for Aston Villa.

Second in the Championship, Villa beat Birmingham City 2-0 in front of their home fans to give their supporters a huge boost in the final stage of the season.

After a goalless first half, Villa took control in the second period.

Albert Adomah broke the deadlock for Villa just before the hour, scoring his 13th league goal of season from 15 yards.

Conor Hourihane scored the decisive second goal with a terrific volley.

Jack Grealish was superb for Villa in midfield, while Birmingham’s day ended on a bum note when Cheikh Ndoye was sent off in stoppage time.

Will John Terry play for Aston Villa vs Chelsea?

Villa haven’t been this high in the Championship table all season.

Steve Bruce’s side will now fancy their chances of returning to the Premier League, which has focused fresh attention on John Terry.

Terry, the Chelsea captain, leader and legend, joined Aston Villa at the start of the season on a one year deal.

It’s also seemed the case that Terry never wished to play against Chelsea in a competitive game. But there’s now renewed belief that could happen, according to the Telegraph. Readers are told:

Terry, the Aston Villa captain, has decided to delay his next move until the end of the season as he focuses on helping guide Steve Bruce’s team back to the Premier League.

Telegraph Sport can reveal that Terry and Villa have a mutual option to trigger another 12 months to his current £60,000-a-week contract.

The thought that John Terry could play for Aston Villa against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge is on.
