Do These 4 Things to Get Your Book Club Back on Track

Do These 4 Things to Get Your Book Club Back on Track

LifeStyle
Why am I assuming that your book club is, in fact, off track? Because it is. Has been for a while. Let’s face it — you haven’t met in months (and you spent most of the last meeting talking about Oscar screeners.) As millennial women, we’re consistently drawn to the idea of the bookclub without fail. This will be great! I’ll read more challenging material! We’ll talk about real ideas! Yet almost everyone I know is a disgruntled or AWOL member of a literary group that has gone completely off the rails. As a member of a newly hatched book club myself (we’re still talking over names, but “The Most Exclusive Book Club in Austin” is a working title.) I thought it might be a good idea to do a little research on how to keep our club on track b

As tech automates, Blinkist keeps its book summary service very human

Breaking News
When I first heard of Blinkist, a service that breaks down recent nonfiction books to easily digestible snippets, I was afraid it would turn out to be some machine-learning-driven auto-summary thing. But in talking to co-founder Niklas Jansen, I was pleasantly surprised to learn that the company is still very much people-powered — and in fact, that may be the root of its continuing success. But critics of removing the climate references argued that the lack of statewide standards would leave teachers — especially those in more rural districts, where climate science is considered more politically controversial — without meaningful resources to...

How to Host a Romance Novel Book Swap

LifeStyle
I stand by the fact that Valentine’s Day is my favorite holiday, and this year, I hosted a girls-only gathering for the books. Romance novels are such a big part of our country’s literary culture, yet I don’t know many women who regularly read the genre. So with the most romantic day of the year upon us, I thought I’d look past the goofy book covers to uncover what the fuss is all about. Better yet, I thought I’d make a party of it! The team came over and joined me for one of the most fun, laugh-filled and sweets-filled afternoons. photography by Kristen Kilpatrick ...see the slideshow here The post How to Host a Romance Novel Book Swap appeared first on Camille Styles.

[Interesting] “A room without books is like a body without a soul.” — Marcus Tullius Cicero The same can be said about a bookstore without an online presence. It is nonsense in a digital era.
