Manchester United are monitoring Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld contract situation: report

Manchester United reportedly keeping an eye on Tottenham Hotspurs defender Toby Alderweireld as they look to bring in recruitments in the summer.

Reports have claimed that Jose Mourinho is keen on bolstering his team’s defence after recent fixtures have exploited the club’s only weakness.

United’s losses to Newcastle and Tottenham were frustrating and of themselves but it was more so due to some defensive errors.

Against Tottenham Phil Jones was at fault, scoring an own goal whilst at Newcastle Chris Smalling was at fault after he conceded a free-kick for diving in which the Magpies capitalised on.

Rumours have surfaced that Mourinho is going to move on both players and is monitoring Alderweireld just in case an opportunity reveals itself.

According to the Mirror, Manchester Evening News reports that the Red Devils are keeping tabs on Toby whose contract runs out in the summer of 2019.

Spurs are currently attempting to negotiate a contract renewal but perhaps Jose will attempt to swoop in and buy him for a cheaper than usual price.

Although the Portuguese manager bought in Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof, Toby Alderweireld represents a more experienced option.

The soon to be 29 year old will surely add quality to Manchester United’s backline and has plenty of Premier League experience as well.

What the possible transfer means for both Bailly and Lindelof is yet to be seen but the move may prove too tempting for Jose Mourinho to ignore.

It could possibly be a case of Alderweireld attempting to negotiate a bigger pay raise at the London club too.

PAOK player celebrates goal with his son after he was bullied in school

Fernando Varela

PAOK beat Larissa 3-0 on Monday evening.

PAOK’s second goal was scored by former Steaua Bucharest defender, Fernando Varela.

The 30 year old headed home from Dimitros Pelkas’ corner in the 40th minute of the match. He then proceeded to run off the pitch and celebrate with his son who had been suffering from bullying at school.

Why was he bullied?

Varela’s son was taunted by his class mates due to his father’s own goal which came in a match last season against Olympiacos.

Varela had actually scored his first goal for PAOK earlier in the match but scored a disastrous own goal in the 25th minute. Olympiacos went on to win the game 2-1 with Crystal Palace’s Luka Milivojevic scoring a late late winner deep into added time.

The tweet above reads:

PAOK defender Fernando Varela, forgave himself by celebrating his goal with his son.

Varela’s son was ill-treated by his father because his father scored his own goal in the Olympiacos match at the beginning of the season.

Best celebration ever?

Varela’s celebration surely ranks up there with the best celebrations of all time.

Last season, Lionel Messi celebrated with a nice gesture (pictured below). The Argentinian was making a symbol to raise awareness for children suffering with cancer.

Antoine Griezmann celebrates with his hotline bling dance after all of his goals

Robbie Keane would always celebrate with a cartwheel and a roley poley whenever he scored during the earlier stages of his career.

Cristiano Ronaldo has made his ‘SIIIIIII’ celebration a trademark.

Gareth Bale also has his own trademark celebration.

Pundit claims this Man Utd star may consider leaving

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has claimed that Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford may have to leave the club in search for first team football.

Alexis Sanchez’s arrival from the Gunners in January sparked a debate on what the move could mean for United’s youngsters.

Anthony Martial and Rashford in particular have been the ones who the press are seemingly concerned about given the position they share.

Both players play in Sanchez’s preferred left wing position and some people have claimed he will derail their development.

Henry appears to be on board with that assessment and thinks there may come a time for Marcus to reconsider his position at the club.

According to Goal, Thierry said on Sky Sports: “One of the most important things for me is that you have to play. You cannot be on the bench and missing games, missing learning about the game and stopping that momentum, and an example is Rashford.

“Michael Owen had the opportunity to back up what he did the year before because he played, and he played, and he played, and he played – and I can give you more examples.

“But Rashford at times could not capitalise on what he did from that year [after his debut], because sometimes he is playing on the right, [sometimes] on the left.

“Leave is a strong word. Obviously being from there, he wants to play for United. But he has to play and it is becoming even more difficult for him since Sanchez has arrived.

“I think at the end of the season, he is maybe going to have a thinking day of ‘do I stay?’”

Thierry Henry as well as the other pundits or critics’ assessment of the situation seems to be a little unfounded given how things actually are.

Anthony’s game time has not decreased at all since the Chileans arrival to the club whilst Marcus Rashford missed, for the first time this season, the Red Devils’ match squad due to injury and not Alexis Sanchez.

The Englishman has been heavily involved with Manchester United this season just as he had been last seen with Jose Mourinho showing him preferential treatment.

Perhaps the reason why some people are concerned is due to Sanchez’s arrival coinciding with Rashford’s poor form which has seen him drop to the bench.

In fact, it’s Anthony Martial who has overtaken the academy product due to his own good form that allowed him to win the January player of the month for Manchester United.

Kieron Dyer tells incredible Paul Scholes story

Why didn’t Paul Scholes play more games for England?

Paul Scholes is undoubtably one of the best players to have ever played football in England.

Manchester born and bred, Scholes made 499 appearances for Manchester United having been at the club since the age of 14.

Scholes won 25 major honours whilst playing for United and is debatably the club’s greatest ever central midfielder.

It is therefore a great surprise to note that Scholes only ever played for England 66 times.

Sven-Goran Eriksson would play Scholes on the left hand side of the midfield to accommodate the midfield pairing of Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard.

There is no denying the Gerrard and Lampard were quality players but failing to play Paul Scholes in his correct position was a massive mistake.

Scholes retired from international football in 2004, before he was even 29 years old, as he was not happy about being played out of position. Scholes stated that his family life and club career with United were ‘more important’ to him.

It is fair to say that England missed Scholes over the next few years. The ginger midfielder could have played a vital role in the 2006 and he most certainly would have aided England’s chances of qualifying for Euro 2008.

Kieron Dyer on Scholes

Kieron Dyer has 33 caps for England. The former Newcastle, West Ham and Ipswich man played with Scholes for the Three Lions for a number of years and has recently told a story revealing just how good Paul Scholes really was.

It’s hard to imagine that the England team could give one player a guard of honour after one training session.

It is unbelievable that Scholes wasn’t given more of a chance in the England set up and if he had been treated better, who knows how the national team could have fared.
